Greenmyapple.org

From the website: “We love Apple. Apple knows more about “clean” design than anybody, right? So why do Macs, iPods, iBooks and the rest of their product range contain hazardous substances that other companies have agreed to abandon? A cutting edge company shouldn’t be cutting lives short by exposing children in China and India to dangerous chemicals. That’s why we Apple fans need to demand a new, cool product: a greener Apple.”

If you agree, visit www.greenmyapple.org and email Steve today!

Carla Avruch

Carla Avruch does colored pencil abstracts on tracing paper. Wow.

On her website, she states: “I am working on a micro level to create a sense of intimacy. The drawings are small, which forces the viewer to peer closely at the images. These drawings are meant to be examined as one would examine a natural object under a microscope; thoroughly, so as to get every physical detail. The biomorphic shapes relate to shapes in the human body, such as neurotransmitters. The movement of the viewer’s eyes literally mimics the way information would fire across a neurotransmitter. In this way, energy is also important to my work. The movement and light in the drawings are both direct references to energy.”

Go check her out.

Las Vegas

I am back from my trip and I didn’t see a whole lot of modernism in Vegas. However, there was a plethora of tackiness, neon, classical architecture, and whimsical design. However, I did snap this photo of a huge plant in one of the lobbies:

I have been waiting for someone to carry Nani Marquina’s Roses rug. I am glad DWR jumped at the chance. It is one of my favorite rugs and I first spotted it a few months ago in a design magazine. How do you suppose you vacuum this thing?

Thank you Designers’ Block! I have found the coolest candle ever made. I desperately want one, but if I did have it, I’d have to sit there and stare at it while it burned. Check out the way it burns in Flash on vanboemmel.com.
