3D Printed Jewelry by Hot Pop Factory

3D printing has taken design where we never thought it would go in recent years and it has boldly set up shop in the jewelry world. For companies like Toronto-based Hot Pop Factory, it makes the ability to produce affordable and unique jewelry a possibility, all from the comforts of their own home. Architecture school graduates Bi-Ying Miao and Matthew Compeau began their collaboration and Hot Pop Factory was born with its first collection, Stratigraphia.

The design reminds me of the old Tetris game but in three-dimensional form. There are three pieces in the collection – necklace, ring, and earrings – all of which come in black or natural.

From the designers:

We explored the idea of accretion by observing the more subtle of natural forces – like wisps of clouds that stealthily gather to create a storm, or tiny grains of minerals eroded by the ocean that form the cliffs and crags. We let this imagery, as well as 3D Modeling and the 3D Printing process lead us towards the finely detailed designs that make up our collection.
