Villa L by Powerhouse Company and RAU

Located within the woods near Utrecht, The Netherlands, Villa L is a dream home for a young family of five that’s full of innovative sustainable elements. Powerhouse Company collaborated with RAU to design the three-level residence with wide expanses of glass to enjoy the garden views it overlooks.

The ground floor opens up to the outdoors with sliding glass doors that make the walls disappear. This floor is also partially shaded by the green roof above.

Despite the elongated design of the house, the overall effect is very minimal and linear. Hey kid, nice cartwheel!

The house, with its green roof, blends in with the lush green landscape the home is situated on.

They incorporated hot and cold water storage and hidden PV (photovoltaic) cells as part of their sustainability commitment.

When looking at the house from afar, it appears very linear with its horizontal roof lines. As you can see when gazing out the second story, the curves are visible. Also, I love the plants!

The basement was built for guests and storage. It also houses the indoor pool. They excavated a clearing to allow for windows to be installed, as well as to have access to the garden.

Perhaps my favorite space. The terrace room gives a straight shot out to the grounds with the curved glass enclosure. It also offers a covered space for outdoor seating.
