Dwell on Design 2013 Exclusive House Tour: Las Tunas

Next up on Dwell on Design’s West Side Home Tour 2013 is Las Tunas, a major remodel on one side of a duplex situated on the coast of Malibu. Architect Bruce Bolander was at the helm of this cosmetic renovation where the city, and neighboring unit, had constraints on what could be done, leaving little room to change the building’s architecture.

The four-bedroom, 2,785-square-foot duplex was built in the mid 1980s, so they set out to update and give the residence an open feeling with sleek, modern upgrades through rich materials, splashes of color (hello, bright green in the kitchen!), and texture.

The warm wood on the bedroom ceiling juxtaposed with the shiny white floors, keeps the space balanced while not distracting from the all-important ocean views.

The orange fixtures pick up tones in the wood so not to distract from the ocean views.

I love the bright blue chairs and how they brighten this small, wood-enclosed space up.
