An Inviting Art-Filled Home by Sergey Makhno

Homeowners of this country house in Kiev enlisted the help of their friend, architect Sergey Makhno to create a restful retreat that was anything but boring. The owners like to travel and collect mementos from around the world so the finished product is quite the showpiece, along with the contents that fill it.

Sticking with a simple design, they chose painted walls, concrete stairs, wooden paneling for the ceilings, and wooden and ceramic tiles for the floors. The exterior feels like a continuation with wood and concrete there as well.

One-of-a-kind pieces of art and furniture are used throughout, including some designed by the architect himself. There are also plenty of iconic pieces thrown in like the sofa and armchair from B&B Italia, the Vitra chairs, and Arco floor lamp by Castiglioni.
