Khan Academy by IA Interior Architects

Located in Mountain View, California, Khan Academy is a not-for-profit organization that offers free, top-notch education to anyone no matter their location. The site features unlimited materials and resources to everyone all over the world and the company needed a space to match that unbelievable offering so they enlisted IA Interior Architects to complete the mission. Their surprising request was for the new space to be “Bold and Beige”, meaning they didn’t necessarily want it to feel like an office but they didn’t want it to feel overdone or “precious”.

The space fills the entire 2nd floor of a two-story building with an open floor plan that stays bright with lots of windows and skylights. While it’s open in the middle of the office, several meeting and collaborative spaces are set at the perimeter. Combined with the whites and beiges, bright colors are interspersed to create an inspiring place to work.

The drop ceilings were removed helping to raise the height and give it a more open feel.

Wood boards cover some of the walls and were used to build communal tables helping add a rustic feel to the fairly industrial space.
