Studio Matsalla completed a project in Los Angeles’ Westwood neighborhood that took a condo stuck in the 1980s and gave it a modern and eclectic remodel. Originally dark and dated, the new space is much more open and functional, as well as bright.
All of the walls were painted white and new trim and moulding were added to update the space overall, along with new wide plank floors. In the living room, a new built-in shelving unit adds storage.
The old brick fireplace was torn down and a graphic, black and white tile was added with a simple mirror above it.
A wall that divided the kitchen from the living room was removed helping to transform and open up the kitchen.
To save space, a dishwasher drawer was used instead of a traditional model. Open shelving helps keep the kitchen from feeling to small and closed in.
The clients fell for the floor tile, so the design was started from there.
