Dublin-based notion, made up of Ian Walton and Marcel Twohig, began a collaboration with heritage hand-weaving brand Mourne Textiles out of Northern Ireland that was kicked off by the Year of Irish Design 2015, a government initiative aimed at bringing more awareness to Irish design. They set out to learn more about each others’ processes and visions and both had the desire to combine tradition with a modern voice.
The result is the FRAME Chair, with a CNC-machined ash seat and anodized aluminum legs, paired with a series of cushions and upholstery, each of which can be changed out via a magnetic closure. They played around with fabrics, color, and quilting to explore different looks with the chair as a way to see how textiles could change how the design is viewed.
