What do four half circles make?
They make up designer Iselin Lindmark Dubland’s prototype coffee table, BIRK. A student at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design, Dubland created BIRK to house all the miscellaneous items that usually accumulate on top of a coffee table to be out of sight in a creative and charming way.
The rounded table consists of four half circles: one at each end, another one to complete the pink storage space, and a last one that the green tray rests on. The tray is made of Valchromat and slides smoothly under the tabletop on tracks, leaving just enough space for a coffee cup. It also slides out completely in a way reminiscent to old wooden Domino boxes and can be used separately as a tray on your sofa. The storage space is lined with 100% wool to protect hard items from scratching. The rest of the table is made using birch veneer and solid birch legs, all made by Dubland in her school’s workshop.
Dubland debuted BIRKÂ at the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair 2016.
