HIRA Collection: Inspired by Japanese Taiko Drums

With parents that teach and play Japanese Taiko drums, it’s only natural that Miles Endo, of STUDIO ENDO, used them for inspiration when he became a designer. The launch of his first collection, called HIRA, sees a series of lighting and a media cabinet, both of which feature textured surfaces that reference the carved interiors of the drums that inspired them.

The HIRA lighting has diamond patterned surfaces that were inspired by the acoustic texture that’s been pressed into copper using a hand pressing process. The copper interior’s matte surface reflects a ring of LEDs that are projected to create a radiant light.

The HIRA Media Cabinet features the same hand pressed copper material on its sliding doors. The copper doors are paired with ebonized oak wood and the legs are made of hot rolled steel.
