Beetle-Inspired Acoustic Panels by MUT Design for Sancal

Acoustic panels have grown beyond function with brands trying to also elevate the looks of them. The latest to throw their hat in the ring is MUT Design Studio, who created a collection of modern acoustic panels for Sancal that go beyond the average rectangular shape. After taking a trip to a natural science museum’s entomology rooms, MUT designed these sound absorbing panels after a beetle. That’s right, the little crawly insects most of us don’t think twice about have inspired the Beetle collection.

Dropping the ick factor that beetles might conjure up for some, MUT chose to abstract them turning them more into sculptural works of art for the walls that also help reduce the annoyance of sound in public spaces. There are 12 different designs based on six upholstered panels that can be mixed and matched in different ways.

Beetle was presented at iSalone during this year’s Milan Design Week.
