TAC.TILES Adds a Touch of the Physical to 3D Software

Becoming proficient with professional graphics software can require a long, arcing learning curve, especially when it comes to memorizing the numerous control options nested within software dedicated to shaping and manipulating 3D objects. TAC.TILES is the brainchild of Belgian designer, Simon Van Pottelbergh, a system of modular input and controls designed to turn a graphical interface into a physical interface that taps into our innate desire to touch and manipulate.

Designed specifically for the task of 3D modeling, Van Pottelbergh’s fifteen different modules connect into customizable configurations using magnetic USB, each assigned its own controls for manipulating 3D models. The configurable setups are not unlike a DJ mixer and controller, another realm where precise and a complex degree of control is desired.

By switching out a mouse, stylus, or even touch-gesture graphical interface for a system of dials, buttons, and knobs, TAC.TILES taps into the innate human talent for manipulating physical objects with less guesswork and with a higher degree of minute control.
