Smilow Design Launches Authentic Mid-Century Lighting Designs

A couple of years ago, Judy Smilow created a collection of furniture that was inspired by her father, Mel Smilow. As head of the New York City-based Smilow Design, Judy continues to honor his legacy by reissuing a collection of lighting originally designed by Mel in the mid 1950s.

There are four designs being launched, two table lamps, a hanging pendant, and a floor lamp. Each fixture merges sculptural forms with a mid-century aesthetic through the use of various woods and their dowel-lined shade.

The Hour Glass Table Lamp stands 37″ tall and it was inspired by the classic hourglass shape. It’s base is made of solid walnut and it’s topped off with their signature handcrafted birch stick shades.

The Bed Side Table Lamp features a small walnut base with a cylindrical birch dowel-lined shade

The Standing Floor Lamp was originally designed in 1956 and comes with a base that has a contrasting sliver of maple wood embedded vertically in the stand.

The Hanging Pendant also hails from 1956 and it comes in two different sizes so you can hang it above a small table, an entryway, in a living room, or a large lobby.
