A’ Design Award Winner Favorites 2013

A’ Design Award and Competition celebrates design across many categories to award the very best designs with their distinguished award. The worldwide competition strives to recognize both individual designers and companies for their achievements in 80 categories, recognizing both conceptual and realized designs. The jury consists of over 40 distinguished design professionals and academics from all over the world. It’s not only an honor, but also a great way to gain exposure for smaller or unrealized designs. Find out all the benefits here. Below are some of our favorite winning designs from this year’s competition:

Above: This Wire Rocking Chair by Hong Zhu looks like a giant piece of black string in the shape of a chair, suspended in mid-air.

tilting-lamp-base-moves

Pilu Lamp by Leoni Werle has a two-position base so you can easily adjust it using the base instead of the shade, which is the traditional method.

bento-box-lamp

The Tako Lamp by Maurizio Capannesi has a Spanish-meets-Japanese aesthetic that just seems to work perfectly.

wooden-clock-stanley-ruiz

Raw Clock by Stanley Ruiz is such a gorgeous piece of craftsmanship. Not only have I been a long-time Stanley Ruiz fan, but watching him grow and emerge has been so inspiring for me.

modern-dental-office-kids

I think getting my teeth cleaned at this White Space Orthodontic Clinic by Bureauhub Chiara Baccarini Tobias Hegemann wouldn’t be as painful. It even has this cute little kids’ play area.

I’d trade in my office in a hot minute for this Conceptual Office by Helen Brasinika

modern-underwear-shop-icebergs

The interior of this Umix Top Underwear Store by as Design Service Limited has a topographic map feeling to it. Kind of iceberg-ish.

disco-lily-pad-table-acrylic

We are so glad that the Disco-Volante Coffee Table by Simon Colabufalo because we really love it—we even featured it here last July. It was inspired by lily pads, but disco-style!

shinn-asano-graphic-stool

We love this Kagome Stool by Shinn Asanowe even blogged about it earlier this year. It’s a nice nod to graphic design.

shinn-asano-graphic-torch-lamp

Another amazing graphic design by Shinn Asano, Hitotaba Lamp is easily portable.

modern-laundromat-coffeeshop

I don’t think laundry would seem like a chore if you did it at the Wasbar Laundromat by Ruud Belmans—this place looks like a coffee shop.
