A Visit to Mondo Collection

While in New York, we visited the Mondo Collection showroom, a company that is dedicated to bringing modern global design to the US, as well as collecting exceptional designs from up-and-coming designers. We got an exclusive tour of the space and had a great time speaking with Jaime Hayon and up-and-comer Jack Craig.

Jaime Hayon for SĂ© – see the entire collection here. Hayon explains that working with SĂ© has been a great experience because everything can be completely customized for a particular client. In fact, the sofa and chair above are the exact same form, the chair has just been elongated – it can be made in any length.

Jack Craig is a recent graduate who bends and shapes PVC into various forms quickly before it cools. We love these molten bent chairs and stools.

Craig stuffs the wood inside the PVC quickly before it cools to create these fantastic stools. Solid as a rock.

Nada Debs is a Lebanese designer raised in Japan who attended RISD, and now she’s one of my new favorite designers. She updates and modernizes Arabesque and global patterns into furnishings using wood, metal, and even painted doilies encased in glass!

Bokja is the duo of Hoda Baroudi and Maria Hibri who have been collecting fabrics from all over the world for many, many years. From old wedding dresses to saris to obi and global bedding, they weave the fabric remnants together to create one-of-a-kind upholstery.

These Soft Chemistry vases by Lara Knutson are woven using the metallic threads used in making reflective gear.

I fell in love with these sconces by Portuguese design firm Delightfull. They can be ordered in any custom length.

Happy feet from the visit.
