South Korean product and furniture designer Xerock Kim created a wooden cabinet covered in bark. Named Accumulation, the piece symbolizes the place at which tradition and modernity meet.
The cabinet was made through a process where tree bark was naturally dyed using a traditional Korean method, and then attached to the wood. Like the bark on the cabinet, it reflects how our lives are gathered, or accumulated, over time and how they become “tangled in the complexity of modern society.”
From the designer:
Accumulation aims at dressing hurt trees cut down for furniture manufacture in their intrinsic, natural cloths…Â Accumulation expresses the diversity of culture and individuals and reinterprets the traditional dying technique to modern-day furniture.
