Au Pain Doré by Naturehumaine

Au Pain Doré is a minimalist interior located in Montreal, Canada, designed by Naturehumaine, as a bakery that’s located on the ground floor of a three-story building on Côte-des-Neiges. The renovation involves a complete re-organization of the interior, redesigned with an extension in the back creating a 1500 square foot unit.

Au Pain Doré is inspired by the combined sale of baked goods and coffee in which the barista is the main focal point. The focus for the architects were to create a contemporary space while keeping to the bakery’s roots. As a result, wood slats were used as inspiration taken from lattices used in wooden bread baskets.

A structural wooden framework holds the randomized wooden slats in place to create the lattice while strategically hiding the lighting and ventilation. The lattices run down the wall to create shelves for the bread and pastries, as well as turning into benches and countertops. The randomized pattern of the lattices create a dynamic and unique interior space that is both functional and contemporary.
