Illusion Lamp for Northern Lighting

Illusion Lamp for Northern Lighting

Talk about a two-for-one. This combination table and lamp is brilliant – it’s super sleek and simple but with the utmost functionality. Illusion, designed by Hareide Design for Northern Lighting, is a wall-mounted lamp (or hanging lamp, see below) that is literally cut in half, making quite a statement. It’s the perfect place to set your keys or mail without taking up tons of space.

Bassett Road House by Paul+O Architects

Bassett Road House by Paul+O Architects

The House on Bassett Road is a Victorian townhouse located in Kensington, West London that recently underwent a modern renovation. The townhouse at one point was divided into four units. Paul+O Architects, a London-based firm, designed this renovation to bring the once divided residence back to a single dwelling home. Due to the home’s historic location, the Victorian facade remained while much of the remodeling took place in the back of the house.

NY Design Week 2012: Noho Design District Part 1

Boy, those girls from Sight Unseen sure know how to put together a fun series of events. We had a great time walking around Noho this year. I made it a point to go this year because unfortunately last year I missed it.

NY Design Week 2012: Noho Design District Part 1

London Underground
London Underground was Tom Dixon’s first satellite show in the US, which took the Bleecker Street Theatre’s basement level space (i.e., “underground”) and turned it into a showcase for his lighting. The geometric shadows thrown onto the walls from his Etch Light Web fixtures were especially mesmerizing. Besides the lighting on display, there was a Fab.com pop-up shop where a selection of his lighting could be purchased. We were a little bummed not to see him on the main floor at the Javits, but this was an entirely different experience. And, once again, I didn’t get one of those safety orange messenger bags! Drats!

Nendo for Lasvit

Nendo for Lasvit

Nendo paired with the Czech glassmakers, Lasvit, to create a collection of hand-blown glass lighting and objects. This is Nendo’s first foray into the glass world and the pieces are quite beautiful. Each piece is unique with slight variations, as that’s the unpredictability of them being hand-blown. The forms are striking, yet elegant all while remaining simple in their overall shape.

Tambour Table by Michael Bambino

Tambour Table by Michael Bambino

You know those desks that have the rolling tambour doors that slide open and closed to expose or hide the desk? Well, Brooklyn-based industrial designer Michael Bambino took that idea and flipped it on its head with his Tambour Table. It’s a desk/computer table that looks like your average work table. Not so…

Richard Blanco

Richard Blanco

Richard Blanco is a Chicago-based painter whose geometric paintings I’m completely taken with. Some of his abstract works are for sale as prints on Society6, while others remain as paintings on canvas and paper. A lot of his pieces make me feel like I’m staring in a kaleidoscope and I like it! Check out his Tumblr page for more work.

Wax Revolution Polanco by ROW Studio

Wax Revolution Polanco by ROW Studio

I think waxing just got a bit more fun. Wax Revolution in Mexico City was designed by ROW Studio as a way to set a new standard for people’s idea of hair removal and it looks like they knocked it out of the park. The space was originally dark and rundown in a partial basement that was hidden from view on the street.
