Bench and Blanket – BENKT – by günzler.polmar

Norwegian design studio günzler.polmar will present two brand new projects at the 100% Norway exhibition at TENT London, during London Design Festival 2012. The duo BENKT consists of a bench and an accompanying blanket.

The BENKT bench is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Scandinavian kitchen bench. The sitting position is upright, and fitting for social settings and seating by a table. The goal is to facilitate a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

The bench is made from simple materials such as pine wood and a Norwegian produced wool textile, Gandal by Gudbrandsdalen Uldvarefabrik. The construction and design is simple as well, with a basic storage shelf underneath the seat and cylindrical back pillows affixed to the pine structure using leather straps with brass buckles.

The BENKT blanket, which I’m really loving, has a graphic pattern developed as an interpretation of the cushions’ geometric lines. The blanket prototype is manufactured by Røros Tweed, and it is produced with traditional weaving technique in brightly colored pure wool.
