Filigree is the specialty of Cal Lane, turning otherwise masculine objects into curiosities of femininity and art.
Not a comment on the art (which is lovely) but on your description. What makes a shovel a particularly masculine tool? Does it have male genitalia? Or is it because the artist is a woman, working with typically male media?
Hi Lorin:
Actually, no, I meant it more along the vein that iron shovels are heavy and more of a masculine texture, juxtaposed with a lacy, feminine pattern.
Nothing to do with male/female roles whatsoever!
