Sandra Fettingis has a great solo exhibit on view at City O’ City in Denver featuring 23 beautiful works made from laser-cut wood and styrene. The title of the show is Tell Me When You Hear Me Falling and it runs through April 8th.
Potter Lisa Jones wasn’t always holed up in ceramics studio. The owner and creative director of Pigeon Toe Ceramics actually started her professional life in graphic design and marketing before launching her much-loved company four years ago in Portland, Oregon. Jones focus on local craft and handmade sensibilities has earned kudos, as has her simple, modern-lined designs. The combination makes her wares unique and widely coveted. In today’s Designer Dailies, Jones takes us through a day of throwing pots, plus the thereafter.
April’s Designer Desktop is a Chinese proverb that artist Rafa Jenn has illustrated and interpreted as “A bird [An artist] doesn’t sing [create] because it has an answer, it sings [creates] because it [he/she] has a song.”

From Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama comes The Obliteration Room, part of an exhibit at the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia. It’s one of the coolest (and most colorful!) interactive installations I’ve ever seen.
I don’t know about you but we here at Design Milk are suckers for good fonts and this one is no exception. Hungarian designer Martzi Hegedus created the Frustro typeface that was inspired by the Penrose triangle. The Penrose triangle is what’s called an impossible object, or described by the mathematician that it’s named for as “impossibility in its purest form.” M.C. Escher used it a bunch in his work.
Not Tom was approached by British bone china maker Buttercup China to create a stand at the Spring Fair 2012.
I met designer Luca Nichetto this past September when Foscarini invited Design Milk on a trip to its home office in Italy, and a tour of the Venice Biennale. Nichetto was one of four Foscarini designers, including past Friday Fivers Vicente Garcia-Jimenez and Ionna Vautrin, to join the group of bloggers to discuss not just their own works, but the hallmarks of good design overall. In addition to creating five lamp styles for Foscarini, Nichetto has designed items in pretty much every home category, including furniture for Casamania and Moroso, Venini vases, and even a porcelain sink and tub. For Friday Five, Nichetto revisits his youth and looks around at his everyday world.
