CES 2017: The Titanium-Encased Motiv Activity Tracker Ring

The Motiv Activity Tracker Ring embodies the axiom of good things coming in small packages – a ring band wearable offering around-the-clock activity monitoring designed to turn new year’s resolutions into year-round habit, all without the cumbersome weight of a smartwatch or activity band.

We’ve worn numerous bands and smartwatches to keep tabs on our daily physical expenditure, but they all suffer from the same problem: they can feel intrusive to a generation unused to wearing a watch/band around the clock (who sleeps with their watch on?).

Proper sizing, alongside the lightweight titanium construction guarantees all-day comfort.

The Motiv circumvents this problem by being smaller and smarter, an ultralight titanium ring equipped with many of the same health monitoring features as its wristband counterparts: optical heart rate sensor for exercise and sleep monitoring, a 3-axis accelerometer, Bluetooth connectivity, and waterproof construction. All this tech is contained in a tastefully realized ring band design available in either Slate Gray or Rose Gold finish (in gray, it looks remarkably similar in appearance and width to my own vitalium wedding band), available in a multitude of sizes, and imaginably much easier to wear throughout the entire day than a watch.

Each 90 minute charge using an included plug-in USB magnetic charger is rated to last 3-5 days, with the addition of a keychain charger for travel.

As one might assume with a non-display wearable, the Motiv Activity Tracker Ring works in conjunction with an app to display the wearer’s resting heart rate, steps taken, calories burned, and quality sleep throughout the night. Personal analytics are displayed clearly via app, with the addition of “action cards” as rewards upon accomplishing certain physical or rest based goals, if that seems appropriately enough an incentive to keep active.

Expect to see the Motiv available this spring, with pre-ordering available today for $199.
