Claudio Chair by Arquitectura-G for Indoors

The Claudio chair is inspired by a specific architectural element – the arch.

Barcelona based architecture office Arquitectura-G designed the Claudio Chair for Indoors as an homage to the repetitious and beautiful curvy arch we all know and love. Arches are more structural elements than aesthetics, but they just so happen to be functional as well.

Made of lacquered MDF, the lower part of the legs is rounded so each one only leans in a single point. Then, the legs make up an L-shaped cross-section wich transforms into arches in each plane, making the joints under the seat stiff. To form the back, the rear arch grows without touching the seat -a horizontal plane that reinforces the categorically geometrical character of the piece- until it reaches the proper height. The designers also mention that the trapezoidal form of the seat breaks the formal purity of the whole giving in exchange a fake illusion of vanishing point, in the way of forced perspectives of the renaissance and the paintings of Chirico.

They are available in a variety of bright colors, and are – as the element they take after – structurally sound. Buy your very own Claudio Chair here.
