Clinical Research Center by emmanuelle moureaux architecture + design

emmanuelle moureaux architecture + design recently designed two floors at the Kyoto University Hospital to house the Clinical Research Center for Medical Equipment Development (CRCMeD). The space is to bridge the gap between the experts working here and its supporters, so “ito” (Japanese for “thread”) is the theme that runs throughout.

Meant to reflect the universal idea of threads that connect the work going on here but also when threads are spun together they become a strong fabric.

Despite being on two separate floors, the motif is shared on both making them flow together. The “threads,” or lines, run horizontally on one floor and vertically on the floor above.

Connecting the threads are bright colors that are used in varying degrees making the space a tranquil and happy place to work. It also makes you forget that you’re in a medical facility, doesn’t it?
