Collaborative Design: Baker Venetian Hall Table

Late last year, Baker Furniture announced an exclusive new finishes program, The Designer Palette, to its longstanding Milling Road Collection that included 15 colors and five weathered finishes. All of which were way too traditional to feature here… until I got an idea. I thought: wouldn’t it be fun to post a Milling Road piece (the Venetian Hall Table above) on our Facebook page and see if together we could come up with a way to work this piece into a modern design? I thought it would be a fun way for Design Milk Facebookers to collaborate on a design and create a room by building on top of one another’s suggestions (like that game in which each person writes a sentence and eventually makes up a story). And, yes, before you say anything “Collaborative Design” was the most creative and exciting title I could come up with. Better suggestions are welcome.

After editing the suggestions, here’s what we came up with and it’s not too shabby!

The Venetian Hall Table by Baker Furniture is #1, pictured in the middle. The surrounding pieces were suggested by Facebook readers.

From top left, clockwise: 2. Harry Allen Come Here Hand Hooks; 3. Alessi Blow Up Wall Mirror; 4. Floral Clock; 5. Tall Bubble Chandelier by Jean Pelle; 6. Vixen Voyage Rug; 7. Bettina Nissen Gills Bowl; 8. Kartell Ghost Chair; 9. Dark wood flooring (image from M2 Wood Flooring); 10. Falling Star on the walls and Bavarian Cream on the trim, both by Benjamin Moore

What do you think of this feature — a fun idea? Should we do it again?
