I was thinking about getting some sort of sofa bed futon thing that doesn’t look like a futon, but isn’t a traditional sofabed. I talked before about cool sofabeds, but they’re out of my price range. I like this one from Futon Creations. I might just opt for a bed, though, unless I am underestimating the square footage of the spare bedroom.

I like this one and that isn’t a bad price at all. In our next home I would like to have a room that is mostly an office/activity room that could be used as a guest room if necessary. This is the kind of piece I would look for for that room – mostly use it to lounge on but also have as a spare bed. Thanks!

Check out Room & Board for a very similar option at a great price

Found your post searching out manufacturers. The style depicted here is often referred to as a clik-clak frame or convertible frame. These are gaining popularity but too many of them are low-end models that don’t seem to have much substance. The modern ones have multiple positions now. They could definitely be the next step in futon evolution or a bridge between futon and conventional sofas. :)

Hey that’s the fiftynine sofa!. I got one a couple of months ago from these guys:
http://www.thesofabedstore.com. To respond to futons critic phil, it has substantial support because ut’s actually a coil mattress rather than just foam. And yes it is Clic-Clac with multiple positions.
