LUGI is a Czech furniture maker that makes custom pieces for architects and interior designers, but in 2011 LUGI launched its own collection of furniture under the supervision of Matej Chabera. More recently, they opened a furniture showroom in the renovated industrial building of a former coal mill. I was particularly taken with Barstool 02, a solid ash stool with a creative detail.
The stool has two diagonal sticks that puncture the seat and then meet the legs at the simple foot rest below. The diagonal pieces serve as structural reinforcement, but also as a backrest, a handle or a hook for hanging things. How’s that for multifunction?
