A Day in the Life of Angela Adams

You know Angela Adams from her rugs, which memorialize nature’s wondrous swirls in brightly-colored wool. These days she and her husband, furniture maker Sherwood Hamill, have been busy expanding the brand to include other home accessories, including bedding, tabletop, stationery, wallcoverings, and upholstered furniture. The couple lives in Portland, Maine, near where Angela grew up, and where the Angela Adams studio and retail store is located. The rugged beauty of the landscape is where Adams finds inspiration. Let’s follow her for a typical day in the studio and on the waterfront in this month’s Designer Dailies.

I usually start the day with an early morning paddle. East End Beach is down the street from my house, and a great place to watch the sunrise.

It’s a peaceful morning.

I love walking to work along the waterfront. These are some natural inspirations I saw along the way.

We have plenty of works in progress in the design studio.

Right now I’m working on the Spring collections.

Here, I’m working with our designer Lara on new knit throws and pillows.

I love the vines that cover my office window in early Fall.

Inspiration boards for the new collections. Ocean inspirations on the left, garden inspirations on the right.

Walking downtown for lunch on the Portland waterfront.

Back at the office, my husband, designer Sherwood Hamill is working on new furniture designs in the wood shop.

We hung an inspiration board behind our new Weather collection in our retail store. This time of year the colors in our store, and our products, are very rich and warm.

Rosemont Market is a favorite stop on our walk home from work. It’s a great place to buy locally farmed produce, meat, cheese, and baked goods.

Look who’s always there to greet me and Sherwood when we come home after work: It’s Doris and Phillipe!

Yum! All local organic food for dinner, thanks to Rosemont and the local farmers: Kale, potatoes, and garlic sausage.

Thanks, Angela!
