designjunction 2014 – Don’t Miss It!

designjunction is back for a fourth time during the London Design Festival and we will be there to check it out.

Spanning four floors of the industrial Sorting Office building on New Oxford Street with one floor entirely dedicated to their new lighting fair, lightjunction, the event will showcase 180 global brands promoting design, retail and innovation.

This year’s line-up will see the return of iconic brands like Innermost, Anglepoise joined by newcomers such as Marset and Seletti. Also showing are smaller, cutting-edge labels including Buster & Punch, James UK, Utopia & Utility, Bravo, and Brokis.

Our friends Dezeen will be presenting an exhibit with British car manufacturer Mini on ‘The Future of Mobility’ that looks at exploring and preparing the human body for space, making cars out of living biological material and using augmented reality to replace road signs. Sounds very cool!

In addition to the exhibitions, designjunction will also create a retail experience consisting of popup shops featuring more than 25 retailers and brands including Outline Editions, Punkt, Magma, Places & Spaces, and Native Union! These popup events are my favorite times to stock up on design goodies.

The “flash factory” area will return and bring manufacturing to life, including bespoke ceramic tiles cut and hand-painted from Bert&May, intricate crystal-cutting from Waterford Crystal plus live upholstery making from British furniture manufacturer Coakley & Cox.

designjunction will also host a slew of great seminars featuring speakers and topics such as Alberto Alessi, Sir Kenneth Grange, Nigel Coats, and Tom Dixon.

This year, designjunction has partnered with Teddy’s Wish, an organization that raises funds to aid research into the causes behind SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), neonatal death and stillbirth as well as support grieving families. The charity was set up following the death of Deborah Spencer, designjunction’s show director’s nephew Edward earlier this year. The charity was set up at the beginning of August and has already raised £43k. The charity items include custom-designed Anglepoise Type75 mini lamp and an ercol Stacking
Chair by designers like Tom Dixon, Samuel Wilkinson and others.

This all sounds like a lot of fun and excitement – we can’t wait to check it out.
