A Duplex Penthouse Apartment by Pitsou Kedem Architects

The Y Duplex Penthouse is spread out over 160 square meters (1722 square feet) in one of Tel Aviv’s neighborhoods where all of the multi-story buildings look the same, mostly uninspired. Pitsou Kedem Architects were hired to bring life to the roof top apartment through the use of modern elements and raw materials, like exposed concrete, iron stairs and furniture, terrazzo floors, and bare wood.

The new staircase creates a sense of separation within the interior, while tying in materials, like steel and wood, that you’ll see throughout the space.

The staircase also allows for light to filter down as they installed glass skylights in the upper floor’s roof.

The elongated shelf underneath the stairs is made from the same materials, tying the two elements together.

Light also floods the main floor thanks to the top of the stairs being open with just a simple railing.

Vertical wooden slats help divide the spaces while allowing light to pass through. They also help with privacy.

I love how you can see down through to the kitchen below.

Besides the 160 square meters of interior space, there is also 40 square meters (430 square feet) of outdoor space on the balcony.

There is almost no distinction between the interior and exterior space due to the use of a thin glass panel system.
