Being a 25 year old gay man making his way in the social sphere, I love to keep colorful bottles with expensive names on display. It says look at me, I’ve been places. However, the fact is that nothing will ever be as popular with the people I really love to hang with as a bottle of Korbel…or three.

There was a blueberry wine made by a local winery made when we lived in Florida, and it was FANTASTIC. Guests always complimented the wine, and many long, conversation-filled nights were had with those bottles. Unfortunately, since moving up to Boston, we’ve yet to find anything that comes close.

My absolute favorite wine – for both taste and personal reasons – is from the little known Hux Vineyards. My co-worker’s brother founded it about 10 years ago and was diagnosed with terminal cancer shortly after. Now his whole extended family runs it, about four times a year they all gather to plant, harvest, and bottle it themselves. The reds are nice but their whites are really smooth and wonderful for summer. I’ve never had a guest complain when I pull a bottle of it out!
DeNacho on 07.26.2011 at 14:24 PM
Pillar Box White – if i can find it! it’s my go-to white!

I usually pick from the few options available to me where I live, but when I travel I try to pick up a few good looking ones. I really like smoky reds, but since people’s tastes are so varied, I try to serve good middle-of-the-road wines like chardonnays and mixed reds. They seem to go over better than more complex wines.

Chardonnay, CA preferred
Victoria Marie on 07.28.2011 at 04:15 AM
I know should say white wine, especially on a hot day. But,…I love my red wines especially Cabernet wines! At the moment I am into Italian reds and are trying a few….to say the least. If I were to have a summer party I would definitely have a variety on hand since not every one likes the same red wine!
I would LOVE to have this wine cooler! Where I live it’s VERY humid in the summer and so it is difficult to have various wines on hand unless I purchase them the day before. The fridge is a little too cold for my wines!!

My favorite wine to serve is a 2006 Iron Horse Rosé de Pinot Noir from lovely Sonoma County, CA. You can usually find it between 13 and 17 dollars and it packs in impressive but delicate punch. It’s a Pinot Noir Rose so it isn’t as pale as most but it’s crisp and tastes amazing while enjoying manchego and grapes al fresco. :)

I love a perfectly chilled chardonnay in the summer- no favorites, but the dryer the better!

I like to sever St. Julian American Raspberry Spumante in the afternoon and change to a Johnson Estate Lake Erie Concord in the evening. Both are light and flavorful with a hint of summer flavor.

We usually have big parties, so my absolute favorite wine to serve is something nice that a friend has thoughtfully chosen and brought to the party.

Moscato. It’s light, semi-sweet, and refreshing, with a bit of carbonation.

A crisp Verde from Portugal, a rose from southern France (Le Beaux if you can find it), or a simple, sparkling Prosecco (La Marca has been our fav as of late).
