You might not have thought of Bloomfield, Ontario, Canada as a destination because most likely, you’ve never heard of it. Oftentimes, those are the best escapes, treasures off the beaten path you discover by chance. Located in the heart of Prince Edward County, Angeline’s Inn is just minutes away from wineries, restaurants, shops, and the world’s largest fresh water sand bar and dune system, the famous Sandbanks. For this month’s Destination Design, we venture off the beaten path to explore this little gem.

With this little inn, you not only get an inexpensive, quirky place to stay, you’re joining and patronizing a family-run business that’s been around for over 26 years. Each room is unique and original, designed by the owners. Whether you want straight-up economy, for which you’d stay in The Walter building, one of their five suites located in their circa 1869 house, or one of their fully equipped homes (the Coachouse Loft, The Chalet, or Picton House) on the property, they have something for every kind of traveler.

In the 1980s, the Fida family immigrated from Switzerland and eventually ended up in Bloomfield where they entered into the hospitality business. After the 2007 death of Willie Fida, the father, his two children, aged 20 and 17 at the time, decided to take things over and become second generation inn-keepers. Over the years, the children, now adults, Alexandre and Melanie, have made the place their own, including the decor which Alexandre has taken over after studying Interior Design in Florence, Italy and finishing his Interior Design degree at Ryerson.

The Walter houses the economy rooms in a building that was the first Motor Inn built in 1953. The rooms may be simple, but they have all the modern conveniences one could ask for, along with some personality displayed throughout.
