Favorites from Maison et Objet 2014

I hopped over to Paris on Friday for the first European trade show of the year, Maison et Objet. The show is absolutely vast, so these really are the edited highlights, but if these picks set the scene for 2014, it’s going to be a pretty good year for design. There was a definite trend for bright primary colors – above is Jar RGB by Arik Levy for Lasvit. I love the way it was displayed over a mirror set at 45 degrees so you could see right underneath.

The AJ Stationery Office Collection from Design Letters is based on a typeface hand-drawn by Arne Jacobsen in 1937.

Tom Dixon never disappoints at M&O and this year’s new launches included this trivet inspired by internal bone structure.

Richard Brendon made his name with mirrored teacups that sit upon vintage and antique saucers. For the London Design Festival he extended the concept to include striped saucers for a collaboration with Patternity. The teapot is new for M&O.

I love these plates by Non Sans Raison finished in platinum. Avant, Ici, Maintenant (Before, Here, Now) is a pixel-era interpretation of the dripping technique or ‘action painting’ pioneered by Jackson Pollock in the 1950s.

More color from Paola Paronetto at Maison – I saw these here last year in delicate white. This explosion of color was very welcome on a cold January Paris day!

I loved this wallpaper by Custhom, commissioned by the Design Museum in London and inspired by the Godfather of Dutch graphic design, Wim Crouwel. It definitely appeals to my inner type-geek!

Miss Print are a London-based mother and daughter team and always have a treat in store for M&O. I love the new Guatemala wallpaper, part of the new collection, Collection 3.

Welsh designer Bethan Gray launched the stud table at M&O along with the production versions of her marble tableware previewed at Wallpaper* Handmade in Milan last year.

And last but not least, a final splash of color in the form of the Blossom Candlesticks by Anders Nørgaard for Applicata.
