Elizabeth Mayhew, lifestyle expert for the Today show, has created a book concept that I’m digging. It’s called and it’s very well done.
First, I need to call to your attention the cover of the book and the awesome font created from little icons of furniture:

The concept of this book is fantastic in both content and execution.
Content: The book takes you through decorating just 4 rooms: living room, dining room, family room, and bedroom. There are also chapters in the beginning on windows and color. What Elizabeth does is simply walk you through each room and addresses key decorating dilemmas. One the left-hand page, she writes about it the dilemmas and solutions, and on the right-facing page is a lovely photo demonstrating her actually doing what she’s talking about.

Execution: Not only is this book a large-scale flip book, but when you actually flip through it like a real flip book, you can see each room come to life. Elizabeth moves through the rooms, adding decor and furniture until the room is complete.

And now I’d like to give it away to one lucky reader!

My husband and I are planning to buy our first house next year (fingers crossed we don’t lose our jobs or something terrible before then) and I have already started to think about how to design things differently. Yes, I know this is weird since we don’t have the house yet. This book would be a great help in my process since I am slightly design-challenged. Great post!
Patti on 04.27.2009 at 08:58 AM

To have this book on my shelf would certainly give me peace of mind….. and the confidence to make a start. I put my hand up and confess I have been procrastinating long enough.
