Flush With Upgrades: Innovative Bathroom Technologies

It’s a room, a refuge, and a necessity. Bathroom trends have transformed the smallest of rooms into important spaces furnished with an array of luxurious amenities, including increasingly a selection of smart technologies designed to maximize comfort, hands-free hygiene, and water-saving efficiency.

Geberit Sigma80 Flush Plate
If there’s anywhere in the home where “touchless” seems most desirable, it’s the bathroom. Designed as a technological sidekick to Geberit’s concealed tank toilets, the Sigma80 eliminates the need to press buttons or push levers with a hands-free flushing system hidden behind black or mirrored glass panel plate. User color-customizable LED sensors handle the dual flush controls, and just a wave engages the system to flush for liquids or solids (standard flush at 1.6 gallon or low-volume at 0.8 gallon).

Also in Geberit’s arsenal of dual flush systems is the Monolith – one of our ten notable bathroom trends – which not only ends up saving water but also space in a room where a little more square footage is always welcome. Discover more at Geberit’s Houzz profile.

Nuheat Signature Thermostat and Shower Floor Heating System
Eliminating the shiver-inducing, jump right back into the shower sensation of cold morning bathroom floors, the Nuheat Signature Thermostat and Shower Floor Heating System is the first Wi-Fi enabled floor heating thermostat solution to market. The 3.5″ 320×480 pixel color touchscreen works with tile and stone flooring – with a temperature limiting (82°F) feature for laminate and engineered wood floors – and can also be remotely accessed and controlled via free iOS and Android apps or from a web browser.

Kohler Moxie Wireless Speaker Showerhead
This one is for the passionate bathroom karaoke singers out there looking for some streaming musical accompaniment while standing underneath a shower stream: Kohler’s Moxie, a combination showerhead meets Bluetooth wireless speaker. While the showerhead base itself is equipped with 60 angled nozzles pushing out 2.5 gallons per minute, the second piece is an innovative removable water-resistant wireless speaker section that pops in and out of the showerhead for mobile positioning or recharging, rated for up to 7 hours of wireless playback from smartphones, tablets, or computers from up to 32 feet away.

Delta Temp2O Technology
Utilizing an integrated LED digital temperature display with three color indicators to signal different temperature (blue represents below 80 degrees, magenta is between 80 and 110, red is greater than 110 degrees) simplifies adjusting the shower visually to “just right” without the need to slip a hand in the shower and risking scalding or freezing yourself to test the temperature. The Temp2O technology will be offered in both a showerhead and handshower option.

At The Touch Touchscreen Shower Panel
Winner of the 2013 Bathroom Innovation Award (BIA), industrial design student Amanda Paukner claimed the Student Prize with a water saving touchscreen shower panel concept. The waterproof in-shower display and touch screen control panel not only offers the time and water temperature, but also promotes conservation by politely reminding shower users those epic singing-in-the-shower concerts can needlessly waste water.
