Friday Five with Federico Delrosso

For this week’s Friday Five, we talk to Federico Delrosso, founder of the Milan and New York-based studio, Federico Delrosso Architects. 1996 saw the opening of his multidisciplinary Milan office, letting the former Formula 3 racer merge his racing passion with his other love, architecture. His minimalist, modern aesthetic drives each project, letting him reach the desired ‘soul of architecture’. Besides his stellar work that we’ve featured here, he’s collaborated with French rug brand cc-tapis, designed lighting for David Groppi, and a private home for Berluti Alessandro Sartori, to name a few. Want to see what keeps this designer inspired? Hint: Racing is still key.

1. Art by Giovanni Manfredini
I really like Giovanni Manfredini, and I have a piece by him called ‘Estasi’ – which means a dream, or rebirth. His art is soulful and thought-provoking, and is about seeking light in the depth of darkness.

2. Millwork Bench from my Grandfather
This bench represents a memory from a beautiful time in my life, where I started working in my grandfather’s workshop from a very young age. Everything started there, including my passion to create.

3. F3 Racing Car
Racing is the greatest passion of my life. Racing gave me the discipline for architecture and desire to break new ground and overcome limitations.

5. New York City
I love New York City. When I’m there, I feel at home. I can just walk around the city and be inspired.
