Friday Five with ModFruGal

modfrugal

ModFruGal is an advertising refugee who started her blog as a renovator’s diary — only to morph into a scrounging, Craigslist tweeting, DIY stream of consciousness. Jill of all trades and master of none…she spends an inordinate amount of her time researching building materials, refurbishing junk and attempting greatness for next to nothing.

Hey guys! I’m excited to share some of my faves on Friday Five with you!

modfrugal-coat

1. My “Technicolor Dreamcoat”
I’ve had this coat for at least a decade…scrounged for $5 at an estate sale and it still makes me feel fabulous. I endure all the well-meaning Joseph taunts because I love it too much to care!

modfrugal-silhouettes

2. Silhouettes
Not just humans…animals and objects, too. Anything in silhouette is timeless and inexpensive to create at home. My favicon is my childhood silhouette.

Pictured above are this Crow Block by Two Sarahs on Etsy and my silhouette as a child.

modfrugal-milkdrop

3. Milk Drop Coronet, 1957 by Harold Edgerton
Ever since I first saw this photo as a child, I’ve been completely fascinated by it…I could never believe it was taken in 1957. Engineer Harold “Doc” Edgerton will always be one of my heroes. You can get the poster for $30 by contacting Palm Press.

modfrugal-woods

4. A Walk in the Woods
I’m finally lucky enough to have some nearby, and it has changed my life.  It doesn’t matter how bad you feel, a walk in the woods can put everything in perspective. Oh…and it’s free.

modfrugal-stonevotives

5. Natural Stone Votives
Instead of buying scented (but sooty) candles, I use natural stone tea light/votive holders. By rubbing the stone with my favorite essential oil. I get a custom fragrant candle experience without all the ceiling damage…or expense.
