Friday Five with Sam Baron

Sam Baron as a designer always creates narratives through his products that respect and highlight the brand DNA for which he is working. He has worked both for new fresh brands as Casamania and Bosa as well as very respectable “maisons” such as Louis Vuitton or Vista Alegre that are looking for a new attitude. He is also an art director that has the capacity to put together the best and diverse people to offer unique solutions. He drives the Fabrica design team for Secondome glass collections. He recently also applied his talent on the famous Colors magazine who celebrates its 20th anniversary collector’s issue.

1. Book: “Comment parler des livres que l’on a pas lus?”
A very smart book that helps you have a discussion about books that you never read. As I am very busy, I am losing the opportunity to spend hours on a terrace reading…

This book is not just a joke but also a smart analysis of contents and way of writing. The classical cover has a French graphic design touch that make it very “Saint Germain,” the bookstore and editors district in Paris. The smell of paper is also very seductive and nostalgic too.

2. Packaging from CĂŁoceito
CĂŁoceito is a small graphic studio that is doing underground music packaging. This last one is silkscreened, with silver foil application, origami folded cover and an original drawing inside. All of the details are very curated and bring so much beauty around a simple CD.

This one has been launched in a cool music shop in Lisbon a month ago where the artist Nuno Luz was playing electronic cool music mixing sounds from Berlin, Italy and Portugal.

3. Soap
I got this nice souvenir in the book shop at Tate in London while at the Baldessari exhibition. It is a piece of pure white piece of soap with an engraving. So discreet, so simple and so strong mixing meaning and function. Very smart and a nice homage to this incredible artist work.

4. Sketchbook by Fabrica
Because it’s very simple and/but clever at the same time: one side with blank white pages and the other side with lined pages to write. Plain nice colored cardboard cover is also hand stitched. Ideas and notes are welcome!

5. This Portuguese wine
For the liquid as for the bottle designed by Spanish artist Luis Urculo.
