Friday Five with Vicente Wolf

vicente-wolf

In the world of design, Vicente Wolf (check out his blog) has been at the top for over 35 years. From the spacious light-filled loft in New York City, where his company is headquartered, Wolf and his team build on his passion for design that’s guided by integrity and simplicity. He maintains this focus throughout his many creative endeavors: photography, art collection, interior design and global travel.

Architectural Digest included Wolf in their “AD 100” and he was also named one of the top 100 designers by Metropolitan Home’s “Design 100”. House Beautiful named Wolf one of the 10 most influential designers in the United States and Interior Design Magazine inducted him in its “Designer Hall of Fame”. He has received the Pantone Color Award and, in 2009, Wolf was named one of the “Top 20 Designers of the past 20 Years” by Traditional Home and was honored as the “Design Icon of 2009” at the Las Vegas Market in September.

Wolf is the publisher of two books and is currently planning his third book for launch in 2010. There is so much more fascinating stuff about Wolf but let’s get to the good stuff, shall we? Without further ado, here are the five (uhm, sorry, SIX!) things Vicente Wolf is currently thinking about!

1. My Passport
I’m about to embark on a seven week around-the-world trip and will be visiting Mali in West Africa, Bali, Bangkok and some other exotic destination where I will shop for my Manhattan showroom, VW Home. Every December I undertake one of these and use it, not only as an opportunity to find exotic one-off pieces for the showroom, but mostly to draw inspiration from. I feel most alive when I’m traveling. Each country’s stamp in my passport is a precious travel memory.

2. Georg Jensen chronometer watch
The Georg Jensen KOPPEL Automatic Chronograph pays homage to the original understated design that Henning Koppel created back in 1978. The clean, modern-yet-classic quality inspires me, and it keeps me (somewhat on time). Plus, it’s the perfect watch to use when I’m photographing as it helps me count the seconds of exposure for those indoor shots.

3. Collection de photographies du Musee national d’art moderne, 1905-1948
I just bought this book online from France and got it delivered three days later. (You’ve got to love Amazon!) It’s great. I love photography reference books. Every reference book I own helps me increase my knowledge of the medium as a collector.

4. Gardenia Passion by Annick Goutal
The Gardenia is my favorite flower and I like the heady quality of the scent. Whenever I smell this scent I am transported somewhere a little happier.

5. Water lily planting kit
I was in Amsterdam over Thanksgiving and found this fabulous water lily kit. I’m just so excited to plant these! In my apartment I have three cachepots from Thailand that is home to my many guppies. I think the water lilies will just add a beautiful touch.

6. Baron de Meyer water lily print
This image I have lusted after for the past 25 years. There are only three known existing prints of the original and I finally managed to get my hands on one of them. I look at it every night before I fall asleep as it’s at the foot of my bed. Isn’t it beautiful?
