Would you believe the cost for this was just $80/square foot?

I have been there. Let me tell you, it’d be that nice if it were that well lit. its not. Feels like a weird cave.

i always love frjtz, i always go there when i was living in san francisco a couple of years ago. to be honest, it looks cool, but i think i like the old place better, yes it was old, but it has the homey feeling. but then, i haven’t been to the newly renovated frjtz, but i’ll check it out if im ever going to be out there again.

Matt’s right about this one. The all white interior looked sparkly clean for about a week before the floor got dirty and the furniture got roughed up. I was in there last week and noticed that they painted the floors a warm brick color. It actually looked pretty good and managed to warm up the place a little bit.

Hi all I just thought I’d mention that actually it was meant to be a lot warmer with a lovely folded burlap (a little nod to the Frjtz (fries)) on the walls but it got cut from the budget. Also the floor was to be a softer industrial rubber surface (easier to clean then paint and cleaner too) but it too got cut. Ditto on the lighting…. Although did you see the space that was there before? Black concrete floor and even less lighting it truly was a cave, I think we did a pretty good job considering the space we were handed. (Also the reason for the move to the new space… the owner wouldn’t renew the lease on the old space.)

Hey! Thanks for posting my photos Kelly and Design Milk, very cool. I love Fritz – I go there so much that I can say that I’ve ordered nearly every salad and ketchup combination possible for their fritz (fries). It’s an amazing space and Y.A. Studio did a wonderful job with it. Thanks again!

first off, sorry if my english looks weird to you, it is not my native language, I apologize in advance.
It may just be me, but I find that even thought the design is truly beautiful, seems difficult to picture myself eating fries and beer in there, I’d rather be eating a salad in such a bright and green place. That could be just my mental tapes though.
Another thing, using white in floors and walls is quite daring, and we now know by the authors that the budget was cut off. But in a place that will be enduring such a regular use it was expected that even with the right materials the shiny of the floors, walls and furniture would wear off quickly. Yes it is the owner’s responsibility to clean off but as designers we should see that coming, if the right material to keep the bright white floors clean is not there, I find a wiser desition to change the color and the reason why is because what is strongest in this design is precisely that beautiful bright white, what’s the point of putting it if it’s not gonna last?
Bottomline, design is beautiful, it really is, but maybe not as convenient for a fries and beer place.
