Heather on 03.09.2009 at 11:23 AM
I had no idea bamboo is naturally resistant to water (goes to show how little I know). So many great things on that site! I know where some of my next paycheck is going now…
Eric on 03.09.2009 at 11:24 AM
The Teak Bath Mat is a borderline ‘need’ … as want does not express how great it is!
The rest of the site has some great stuff… bookmarked!
Mithi on 03.09.2009 at 11:26 AM
I’ve been using one of their Yoga DVDs for years! Didn’t realise they did home goods too … I think I may just have several new wedding list items!
Amy on 03.09.2009 at 11:30 AM
I am loving the Continuous-Use Composter. Was just telling hubby I want to start composting this year, that would rock the casbah right off the foundation…or something that makes actual sense!
Colleen Clark on 03.09.2009 at 11:33 AM
Since I live with roomates, I get nervous spending money on rugs with all the foot-traffic and wear-and-tear. I love how bright and durable the floral-pattern, all-weather rug is. And, even better, it’s fair trade from Thai artisans–my roomate lived there for two years and i’ve been twice. It’s one of my favorite places in the world, and this is a modern way to bring it into our living space.
Dara N. on 03.09.2009 at 11:34 AM
My favorite item is the Oriental Pattern Reversible All Weather Floor Mat and I was VERY surprised to learn that it is made from recycled soda bottles!

I love those rugs. We had a couple lovely days last week where we could actually go outside and it got me excited about using our back porch as an additional living space this year. And you can just hose them off? Perfect for us!
Thanks for the giveaway!

The all weather floor mat is just what I’ve been looking for! It looks beautifully crafted, and would look great on my patio. What a step up from traditional outdoor rugs and carpets. And that it is eco-friendly just makes it that much better!!

julia on 03.09.2009 at 13:32 PM
Ooooh! Those rugs seem like they could be awesome come summer; our landlord just redid our porch from a three season into a one season and we (two roommates and I) are really looking forward to spending time out there and trying our hand at growing some of our own food.
Lance on 03.09.2009 at 13:38 PM
These are all great, and it’s good to finally see some insect repellent that is natural and not going to poison me and everything around me! And it seems so simple; I wonder why other companies stick with all the chemicals.
Janel on 03.09.2009 at 13:41 PM
I really enjoy the general style of the website. But in particular I like their sheets, restful, colorful and interesting without being over the top.
Marya Asher on 03.09.2009 at 14:02 PM
I love those outdoor rugs. I recently received their catalog and was checking them out. Our deck needs a lot of work (short-term fix is sanding and staining, less short-term is replacement) but we love to spend time outside with the kids. One (or 2) of these rugs would help prevent splinters and brighten the deck up a bit! Very cool!

While I love these giveaway items, what makes me happiest after (re)visiting the Gaiam website is seeing the return of the rattan meditation chair. A friend of mine has a pair of them from years ago and they are the most comfortable low chairs I have ever experienced! My husband and I are aging floor-sitters, and someday we will be investing in a set of these for our home.
Beverly on 03.09.2009 at 14:46 PM
The rugs are much more beautiful than your standard mud room mat and I love that they are made from recycled goods!
Bryn Chernoff on 03.09.2009 at 14:48 PM
The all-weather mat is beautiful. I’ve traveled a lot in Thailand and one of the best souvenirs I found was a mat similar to this (although far less pretty!) and it’s so fun to have out in my brownstone garden in Brooklyn. It can truly handle all weather! I’m so excited to find a place to buy these state-side.

Amber Ellis on 03.09.2009 at 16:22 PM
Yes! I just love those floor mats! I have been eyeing them on their website and catalog for over a year. Those pop colors are fabulous and are a great way to completely transform an outdoor patio area. Not only are these suckers recycled from soda bottles, they are also fair trade. That’s a big deal to me. Thanks for the opportunity to win one!

Cool website! I loved the balance ball/chair combination!

I’ve been looking at floor mats lately and these are perfect! The floor tiles in my kitchen get really cold and are so unpleasant under my feet when I’m trying to make my morning cup of coffee! This would be perfect, especially in the aqua/yellow combination!

Emily MBD on 03.09.2009 at 17:37 PM
The outdoor rug! Its fair trade! I have one in my ‘entryway’. I would love to have another to complete my outdoor space that has recently been spruced up. It really weathers the traffic in my house. (I could also really use the mosquito control liquid.)
patricia skinner on 03.09.2009 at 17:59 PM
The Reversible All-Weather Rugs stand up to foot traffic in mudrooms, kitches, or anywhere else there is plenty of comings and goings. They are made from spent soda bottles!

I love the bath caddy! When I first saw it, I imagined sitting in a bubble bath with some tea and cookies on the tray. What a fabulous idea.
Another fabulous idea I saw on their website was the Countertop Bag Dryer. I’ve never really gotten into reusing plastic bags because it was such a hassle to wash and dry them. But I can see how this would make it so much easier. And people seem to love how convenient it is. It shows no signs of wear even after ten years. Amazing.
Brooke Raymond on 03.09.2009 at 20:09 PM

I adore the Tofino Table and Chairs. I had no idea it was Eucalyptus until I read the description, it really does look just like teak! Not only that, but the price was really affordable for quality wooden furniture.

I love the floormats…..they are both very attractively designed, but what makes it even better is that they are PLASTIC…and made from re-cycled soda bottles. What a great idea!

RE: Floral Pattern Reversible All-Weather Floor Mat
It is very encouraging to be introduced to a product that recycles used plastic into something so beautiful and functional.
I still hold out hope that we can stop making/using plastic bottles all together and move into something more re-usable; but at least until then we can recycle the already used bottles into something new and fresh.
It also sounds like the individuals producing the rugs are treated fairly; it is very rare to have a website mention where and by whom a product is made at all. Kudos Gaiam.

Continuous-Use Composter is a great product! I wish I am able to pick this up. I didn’t know you can compost waste at home! Great tip!!
Pamela Daley on 03.11.2009 at 06:03 AM
So many ‘green’ sites have outrageous prices! As if to say ‘you want eco? You gotta pay!’ Gaiam always gets my vote (and my $$$) because they don’t do that. There prices are reasonable and their products are great!

Oriental Pattern Reversible All Weather Floor Mat product states that the Thai artists who make it get a fair wage. I like that concept!

Thanks for the morning diversion, I have put off starting work for another hour. I have started my birthday wish list with the counter top compost bin as #1, recycling bins as #2, good thing my birthday is at the end of the month. I also must purchase the plastic baggy drying rack for both my mother and mother in-law, they are fanatical about their baggies.

I am fortunate to have an old clawfoot tub in my apartment and would love that tub caddy- slightly more chic than cluttered bottles on the floor. And the rug made from soda bottles is brilliant- been eyeing those up for a while.

I am so loving the spectacular Oriental Pattern Reversible All Weather Floor Mat from Gaiam so I visited their website to find out more. I love that this mat was handmade by Thai artisans who receive a fair wage for their craft. It is so nice to see these artists are treated with the respect and dignity that they so rightly deserve. They work hard, they truly need their wages, and it warms my heart to learn this today. I also love that this mat is made entirely from recycled spent soda bottles. I love to see beautiful products being made from items that would have normally ended up in a landfill. This is a remarkable piece and I love that you can use it indoors or out, and it can be cleaned easily with a hose. How cool is that! Thank you so much for enlightening my day today with this very neat giveaway from Gaiam!
Anita A. on 03.11.2009 at 15:15 PM
At the Gaiam website, I really love the Digital Zen Alarm Clock. It’s a splurge, but some day I would love to get one of those. It would be such a soothing way to wake in the morning rather than to harsh radio or loud music. As for the choices above, I like the Oriental Pattern Reversible All Weather Floor Mat.

First of all, I stumbled across your blog via the Googler Reader (staff picks had you listed in their list of 15 interesting blogs), and loving design, I had to take a peek at all the fun stuff you were showing off.
When I saw this post, I was intrigued. I hadn’t heard of Gaiam before, so I headed out to take a peek.
I think the one thing that really caught my eye was the BalanceBall Chair. I have used the stand alone balance balls before and really like them, but I find myself rolling around a bit too much…not necessarily a bad thing, but when you’re trying to get serious about a project, it takes away your concentration a bit.
The BalanceBall Chair kind of solves that issue. You still get the great posture help from the ball, but it’s a bit more stable than the ball, so it is easier to stay in one place.
Anyway, keep up the great work…I look forward to coming back to your blog and seeing some more great stuff.
Cheers!

I’ve seen a million and one shower caddies before, but I’ve never seen a bathtub caddy like that! I hate it when I’m taking a bath and have to stand up to get something out of the shower caddy that hangs up high….or risk balancing everything on the sides of the tub. Yuck. Love this tub caddy instead!

Gaiam comments:
I’m commenting first on the Gaiam Bamboo Bathtub Caddy- it’s visually very attractive and something that I could see myself using- I am indeed a fan of the slow and leisurely bath. The dilemma: where does it go after the bath? Storage seems like a given and I like the idea of keeping something like this in view. I wonder if a hook or loop might be added that allowed the user to loop it up over a shower head in between uses, or a custom hook to keep this attractive wood piece hanging on the bathroom wall in between uses. I think if I owned this I might make a special shelf for it to rest on in my bathroom.
Second item I am commenting on is the Bamboo Shower Caddy- which seems like the companion to the bathtub caddy. I appreciate the “spa” aesthetic of these two pieces. The light wood and simple design indulges in a minimal Asian style that is in sync with this company’s harmony-making image. I am in the midst of remodeling my bathroom and am heading towards colors and materials such as these- my bathroom has a sterile and serious look- black and white tiled floor, white walls (it is a rented apartment) and I have been looking for ways to bring a touch of nature and the outdoors into a space where I go to feel not only clean but cleansed. I could see bamboo bath features such as these fitting in nicely with the stones I am setting around the tub.
My one curiosity about this product it the sharp corners. I think I would shave of sand the edges of this item- I bump into my current bath caddy all the time- it is light and moves, but this more bulky model may not budge as much so curvature of sanding will prevent unwanted bumps.
Thanks for running contest- hope these reviews are helpful!

I need that rug in my life!
I have a void that must be filled!
Sara Barr on 03.13.2009 at 03:31 AM
sometims after a long day there’s nothing better than taking a hot bath (tell me you don’t agree). The only problem is that i like to read in the tub and there’s nowhere to put my book! What? why don’t all bathtubs include a bookrest? That’s why this bath caddy is perfect. You can house all of your precious bath treats like a loofah, body scrub, bath salts, incense, what have you…in this caddy and ALSO rest your book on it! What could be better? An amazing bath with all the amenities right at your wrinkly fingertips. Who needs to go to a spa?

I think the bath caddy must be a little nicer in concept than in execution. It looks cool, but without some kind of stop mechanism it would fall into the bath tub at the slightest disturbance.
I do like the style of the Gaiam bathroom gear. I especially like the teak bath mat.

Reel Lawn Mower, I love this. You don’t know how many problems I have had with our gas powered lawn mower. I usually just give up and let the husband do it. With this manual reel lawn mower I could do it myself…and get exercise, wonderful!

The bamboo shower caddy is great. Being naturally water resistant means that it will not tarnish over time. It is modern and great for the bathroom. I could definitely see it fitting into the decor I am looking for.
The rugs are awesome. What a great idea. I am always happy to see plastic being recycled and that they are paying fair wages for the great artistic work that is displayed. I could see this fitting in my home as well.
Also, the cork yoga blocks are a great addition to a home yoga practice. My husband and I use them often and love using them. They provide a solid support that does not flex when doing yoga moves. It is great to be using a sustainable harvested resource to make something.
All these products have such a sense of peace about them when you look at them. Anyone would be lucky to have them.

i absolutely love the Ecofan. My parents love to have a fire burning in the winter. But not only does it actually suck heat out of the house through the chimney, but they use an electric fan to move the heat around the room. The Ecofan would solve at least one of those problems :).

Although many consumers are hesitant to purchase products from China it is obvious Gaiam has it right. Sustainably consious products that are useful and well designed. The Shower Caddy really got my attention as the market for these handy items, has been filled with so many non-attractive items and badly manufactured. So thank you Gaiam for putting a product that is elegant and sustainable.
