Holes in the Memory by Michal Taharlev

Hailing from Tel Aviv, Israel, artist Michal Taharlev’s series of work entitled Holes in the memory detail old family photos and reinterpreting them in an entirely new way. Painstakingly using a needle, Taharlev pokes through the canvas making tiny dots to re-create the original image in an almost gradient-like fashion.

Using a 0.5mm needle, Taharlev focuses on the photo’s details, much like a painting done using pointillism, where tiny dots trick the eye into making up an entire image.

From the artist:

The use of a needle on a photo and the violent act of damaging and obsessing over memories, yet in a very strict manner, gives a new meaning to the innocence and the unknown future the photos hold.
