The Cape Town-based firm SAOTA (Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects) is known for their jaw-dropping designs and the Montrose House is no exception. Located up a steep incline at the end of a cul-de-sac, the home overlooks a valley and has views of the mountains and bay off in the distance. This house was made for the outdoors and the views of them through the walls of glass that cover the house.

The main focal point of the house is the glass enclosed living room and the bedroom that is directly above it. Both overlook the pool and the lush green landscape beyond. The other main feature is the double layer roof over the bedroom. It looks like it’s floating, doesn’t it?

Love the water feature that surrounds the interior stairs!

Not being an architect myself, at first it was hard to see what’s so jaw-dropping about all this. I mean, it looks like every other modern house. Then I realized the extraordinary attention to detail here, and the subtle ways they’re breaking new ground. Thank you for the inspiring work, SAOTA.

So beautiful. It’s definitely my dream home.

Okay, so their stairs are shiny marble, with no handrail, and they end in a water feature… Hmmm. I hope they always wear sensible shoes and are never in a hurry.

My thought too! I could see family coming over and perhaps even the owner slipping at least once in there. Also don’t drop anything on the floor or it will slide straight into the water.
Stil an amazing home though.

Haha! The house looks nice, but that stairs will be a nightmare for those with fear of heights.
