House in Meco Beach in Portugal by Jorge Mealha

This home by Jorge Mealha is located at Meco Beach on the outskirts of Lisbon, Portugal. The home is located on a woody lot, therefore there was a need to create harmony between its facade and the beautiful natural surroundings. I’m loving that effect of the treatment on the windows at the top of the stairs — the shadow play is incredible.

From the architect:

The resultant form proposes an apparent accidental arrangement of different and overlapped and tensioned solids, dealing with mass, voids and balance. Windows are opened in strategic locations, trying to catch the most interesting spots in the surrounding landscape.

From the interior we also can notice some of the attached external spaces or volumes, acting as mediators in the perspective.

Using a range of different finishes, this house plays with materiality, trying to organize form and space. One of them, a textured glass box, gives opportunity to light to draw, proposing changing textures trough the day in some interior spaces.

Circulations, as the staircases and the bridge between the upper rooms, are in white painted metal, drawn quite light, trying to create a space as fluid as possible.
