House in Mexilhoeira-Grande by Marco Arraiolos

Located in Mexilhoeira-Grande, Portugal, this house overlooks the mouth of the Alvor estuary. The house flips the usual idea of having the public areas on the main floor and the private areas above, which allows for the best views to be observed by everyone. With the ground floor housing the bedrooms, the top floor features the living room, dining room, and kitchen along with the terrace that stretches around the facade. This floor also has a sloping roof which blocks the wind from the north.

The roof is even finished with the same white material as the sides of the house which gives the house a uniform look.

The interior is much like the exterior with its white, angular walls and sparse wood accents.

I love the built-in floating stairs and how the light can pass through.
