I agree! I visited Canada over the summer and was surprised at how far behind the United States is from a country right on top of us! Recycle bins were everywhere and the stores put out all of their recyclables at the end of the day to be taken away. Two years ago, when I was studying at Saint Xavier University, you had to travel across campus to reach just one of the two or three recycle bins they had (I hope they have improved this situation). The past two jobs I have have also wasted an obscene amount of recyclable products (particularly paper) and rejected the notion of recycling as "it was too much effort" -- when I was _volunteering_ to package and deliver the products myself!

I have to agree with Julliah and Valerie, I just purchase one and I LOVE it! I have tried many travel mugs before and there has always been an issue whether it be the handle or not fitting in the cup holder or simply b/c it's metal and can't be reheated. I was a little apprehensive about the silicone lid but it stays on great. I wish I bought more than one when I was out that way at homegoods since it's not really close to me since the ones online are not as cute as mine plus I only paid $5.99. The only thing I don't like is the smell of the silicone but I figured once it's washed a few times it won't be as bad.

Obviously, I have stumbled across this article long after the fact. I was looking for information since I've recently bought a mug similar to this(but decorated). I have to say, regarding some of the comments:
1. It's probably made in China, but it is porcelain, which is traditionally known as "China" for a reason. They invented it, they've made it forever, etc. While I support buying local products, anyone who lets themselves be made to feel guilty about buying "China" from China is being unreasonable.
2. White porcelain like this is plain porcelain with a clear glaze on top. This is generally inert.
3. While there is a good long-term affect on reducing paper waste, you are all ignoring the initial larger affect of things like the firing process. Either fuel is burned, releasing carbon, or a large amount of electricity is used to fire anything ceramic. Over the years, this is surely offset, but when you talk about it as though there is essentially no environmental impact, you are being very silly.
4. In terms of waste, it will be like any other ceramic item... basically like a throwing away a rock.

bad!!!!

I both one and I hated when the silicone cup started to leak when I drink.

impossible to use

I called the company and told them about the problem
they asked my address to send me another one with no problem but it never came...

pretty but not good design

I wish some one would at least give me an answer about it...

the cups are insulated so no first degree burns and their is always an initial cost when buying a reusable mug but they are cost saving in the long run.

Wow...

These things have been on sale all over specialty and tourist stores in Canada for years.

Starbucks has them everywhere from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal in Canada, to New York City, Bangkok (Thailand) and Hong Kong.

I've even seen them in London, UK.

People seem so surprised... honestly, if these things are available in Canada's modest capital here in Ottawa, I'm absolutely sure its available anywhere, including the backwaters of Australia's outback.

Im surprised by everybody's "surprise".
