Icon Brickell in Florida by Errez Design Inc.

Ruben Gutierrez of Errez Design Inc. sent me over a project that he recently completed: an apartment in Miami at the Icon Brickell. Ruben worked alongside his wife Katie (together they opened their design studio one year ago) and took a small, white space and transformed it into a beautiful, peaceful living space inspired by the owner’s original artwork and eclectic taste. I’m loving the striped wall behind the bed.

From the designers:

The elegant design expresses the playful personality of the artistic couple who live here. This young couple wanted a space that worked for their busy lifestyle. They work from home but love to entertain so their home needed to have a professional feel while maintaining their playful side. The apartment is located in the center of Downtown Miami’s financial district and overlooks the Miami River and The Miami Skyline. Being in the center of the city has allowed these new urbanites to use their small space to its fullest. The apartment features a bold color scheme including a black fabric wall that serves as an anchor for the living space. The design was motivated by strong contrast and bold color. The furnishings are an eclectic mix of old pieces, new pieces, hand me downs, flea market finds, and specially made pieces. The “coffee-book table” is simply stacks of the couples’ favorite books with a sheet of glass on top.  The large art work behind the sofa was an ERREZ design original. It was made specifically for the space by re-purposing old paint chips. The straw sculpture in the hallway is another ERREZ design original which features hundreds of drinking straws hand sewn together. Errez design sees the art in everyday objects. The room was accessorized with an odd mix of things including scull pillows on a classic camel back sofa, a vintage collection of crystal candelabras, and the couple’s extensive book collection. In the dining room a romantic vintage crystal chandelier, that the couple inherited, crowns the dining room table.

The bedroom has a more restful pallet than the living space while still flowing nicely. One of the challenges of this small space was that the bedroom will be seen from the living room. It had to fit in without screaming “bedroom.” Mirrored wardrobes were used to reflect focal points of the house and make the space feel expansive. The highlight of the bedroom is its stunning view of Miami Beach everything else was secondary.
