Juliet by Benjamin Hubert for Poltrona Frau

Benjamin Hubert created very beautiful leather armchair called Juliet for Poltrona Frau, which launched at Salone in Milan last week. Juliet was the winner of Poltrona Frau’s search for its Centenary armchair – the Italian company is celebrating 100 years in business! Juliet has a unique leather detailed seat and an interesting bodice-like base and back. It would be very attractive in the middle of a room.

The competitors had to utilize the traditional upholstery techniques under the theme “a chair to spend time in.” Hubert’s Juliet chair was inspired by the Italian Renaissance fashion detail the “Juliet sleeve,” a sleeve which tightly fits the arm and has a large deconstructed “puff” on the shoulder. This tailoring translated well to the leather upholstery on a timber frame, being somehow both loose and tight at the same time.
