The KFHein foundation support organizations from Utrecht in the field of conservation of monuments, nature conservation, healthcare, culture and social work. They support artist and designers by collecting work for their own art collection and by commissioning work. The KFHein furniture has been developed in a commission to design a meeting place for the KFHein office.

In addition to these pieces, Lotte van Laatum design studio created the Second Skin chair, which is based on the cycle of wood. A tree becomes wood for furniture and for this design, this wood is brought back into its natural shape. Gathered branches have been 3D scanned and are translated into 3D milling work. This way the wood partly gets back into a natural shape.
