The Lumen is the first of its kind – a retro-reflective bike that’s designed for safer city travel. By day, it’s an unassuming charcoal colored bike. By night, the frame and rims begin to glow, without any sort of batteries or switch.
How you ask? Designed in San Francisco by Mission Bicycle Company, the Lumen is painted a retro-reflective powder coat from Halo Coatings, which is the same kind of paint that stripes on the road have. This coat essentially returns light to its source, instead of bouncing or scattering the light.
